RiverStar is committed to continuous improvement in reducing its environmental impact.

RiverStar employees work to implement new, green practices in operations and to source environmentally friendly and recycled content materials where possible. The company’s practice in product repair and reconditioning are a good example. Incoming products are disassembled with parts recycled whenever possible and non-useful parts salvaged for their material value.
Another example of a simple change with big impact is a new facility wide lighting project. New lighting is reducing carbon monoxide by 112,000 pounds per year with significant drops in sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide as well. Other programs include the use of more recycled content in production processes and changes in processes to reduce waste streams and decrease the volume of scrap materials.
RiverStar also is proactive in terms of sustainability management. We feel we have a responsibility to our employees, customers, community and the environment to keep sustainability in mind when making business decisions.
Here are some examples our sustainable projects:
- Water savings project that will reduce our water consumption use by 4,000 gallons annually.
- Warehouse lighting retrofitting project that will reduce our Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions by 145,245 (lbs) and our kilowatt-hour (kWh) energy use by 90,938 kWh annually.
- Over 20 years, this project will reduce CO2 emissions by 1,121.2 tons and reduce our energy consumption by 1,818,760 kWh.
- This is equivalent to saving:
- 3,363-plus barrels of oil and 141,251 gallons of gasoline from being consumed.
- 313 acres of trees from being harvested.
- 242 cars being removed from the road.*
- Recycling of office paper, cardboard and plastic soda bottles to reduce our landfill contributions.
- Composting of food scraps to reduce our contribution to landfills.
- Donating of packaging peanuts received from overseas vendors to local businesses to be re-used.
